At FCA, your child will be nourished by faculty who love the Lord, love their curriculum, and love their students.

We think of your child as a fellow Image bearer who is continually being drawn closer to Christ. With that in mind, we provide coursework that is borne in wonder and that leads to wisdom through a culture of discussion, healthy student-teacher camaraderie, and commitment to pursuing excellence. Your child will be taught that good questions are better than right answers.

Secondary Learning Defined

FCA's aim is to cultivate in your child someone who exemplifies the ideals of faith, reason, and virtue addressed in our Portrait of the Graduate and who, by loving and pursuing proper things, is prepared to engage the world with humble skillfulness and confident care. We believe that the best way to cultivate these qualities is through the study of the Liberal Arts.

The secondary defines its course trajectories according to course questions crafted by each department. These course questions are meant to lead your child to think deeply about all coursework presented to them. It is one way we keep content cohesive across disciplines, and thus contributing to the cultivation of your child as a whole person as well as preparing them for graduation.

Biblical Studies

Your child will explore Biblical interpretation, doctrine, and historical context, the aim being to cultivate a genuine love of God and others issuing from a pure heart, good conscience, and a sincere faith.

Humanities

Your child will be invited to think and discuss ideas with which mankind has wrestled throughout the ages, to engage with literature and philosophies that give them opportunity to consider universal and timeless questions, all the while pointing them to the Author of all humanity.

Logic and Rhetoric

Your child will first be introduced to traditional logic in middle school in preparation for more advanced studies in the liberal arts, especially rhetoric, as they move through high school.

The fundamental tool of reasoning, with an analysis of arguments (formal, informal, categorical, and propositional) for validity will be the foundation of their studies. Your child will learn to define terms, explain relationships between statements, and identify both formal and informal fallacies while asking rigorous intellectual questions, especially of themselves.

Rhetoric, often said to be the art of “good men speaking well," will give your child the tools to express truth effectively both in writing and in speaking, culminating their senior year with the presentation of research on a topic of their choosing.

Language

Your child will be introduced to the basic vocabulary, grammatical forms, and basic syntax of Latin or Koine Greek, laying the necessary groundwork for reading, comprehending, and appreciating ancient texts.

Mathematics

Your child will be taught mathematics with the aim of developing mathematical knowledge, understanding, and skill, along with an awareness of and appreciation for the rich connections between mathematical concepts, mathematics, and other disciplines. Our coursework is problem-centered and inquiry-based. Your child's growth in reasoning effectively with information represented in verbal, numeric, graphic, and symbolic forms and moving flexibly among these representations, will produce fluency in both conceptual and procedural knowledge. Your child's thinking and reasoning skills will be at the heart of this learning, the aim being that your child will acquire an understanding of mathematics that will help them think, reason, and communicate.

Science

Through exploration and discovery, FCA science courses will inspire awe and appreciation in the beauty of God's orderly creation in your child, aiming to shape them to be informed, inquisitive investigators and able to view the beauty of the world with a balanced approach to scientific advancement and Christian charity.

FCA Tours

Each year, your child, as well as classmates and teachers, take part in a one-day, interdisciplinary “tour” every year. Each tour is curated and led by the teachers of each grade and includes a variety of local experiences that tie in to coursework specific to that grade.

These tours culminate in The Grand Tour, a five-day trip to Washington, D.C. taking place during the fall semester of your child's senior year. The Grand Tour provides a unique opportunity to extend learning beyond the classroom and to deepen your child's friendships with peers and teacher mentors.

FCA tours are unique and education-filled events and are sure to be a highlight of your child's educational journey at FCA!

Academy Life

In addition to our comprehensive academic approach, your child will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of co-curricular activities such as dances, socials, arts programs, sports, National Honor Society, and our House System ("House").

Your child will begin participating in House in sixth grade. House intentionally unites students and faculty in a Christ-centered community where Christian virtue is practiced through and thrives on mutual service, tournament play, and fellowship gatherings.
